Virginia Sherriff

Director, Senior Physiotherapist & Pilates Practitioner

Email: virginiasherriff@ssop.com.au

Qualifications:

 Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Otago University)
Certified Pilates Practitioner

Background:

After graduating from The University of Otago in 2002, Virginia returned to Wellington where she worked in a private sports clinic for a couple of years.  During this time she looked after The Wellington Womens Soccer team during their home matches of the National Tournament League.  She also developed a penchant for teaching and began taking exercises classes on the Swiss ball for both general population and obstetric patients.

As many  Kiwis seem to do, she then moved to London where she initially worked in a Musculoskeletal Outpatient role in the NHS.  This  developed great Obstetric skills including leading classes for both ante and post natal clients.  Ready to return to the Private practice setting Virginia  then joined the team at Crystal Palace Sports Injury Centre, for another 4 years.  This is an award winning clinic in South London which specialises in both Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and Occupational Health Physiotherapy.  Whilst working here she formalised her Pilates training and under the APPI completed Matwork I & II and Instructors courses.  She then began teaching in the clinic and in the local  area.  She also completed an Acupunture for Pain Relief course there and has found the use of dry needling and acupunture a fantastic adjunct to treament with both acute and chronic cases.

After 6 years (and many fantastic trips and memories!) it was time to leave the UK and make the move back downunder.   Arriving in Sydney in mid 2010 Virginia again joined a Private Sports Clinic where she continued her Pilates Equipment training through Stott and divided the working week between teaching Clinical Pilates classes and Physiotherapy - she finds having the combination of skills really benefits clients as she can get them started on their rehabilitation programme and guide their progressions in the studio.

Virginia joined Sydney Sports & Orthopaedic Physiotherapy in June 2012 as senior physiotherapist & senior pilates instructor and has become an integral part of the team. In July 2013 she became Director of Pilates on Macquarie and continues to develop and enhance the pilates section of the practice, overseeing the classes and the pilates instructors.

Outside of the clinic, Virginia is  a keen runner, with a personal 'career' highlight of completing 2 London Marathons sub 4 hours.  She also plays  tennis and will pretty much give any sport a good go.  As a true kiwi patriot,  she is an avid Rugby Union fan so was more than pleased to celebrate the additional silverware the All Blacks added to the cabinet in 2011!
